Who we are
We are breeders of Purebred Scottish Highland Cattle. We are a 5th generation farm family living in central Iowa and are proud members of the Heartland Highland Cattle Association. We raise all natural grass fed beef for private sale as well as served through our highland beef based food truck. We also raise quality breeding stock for purchase as well as offering custom breeding services..
Origins
Clint and Heather Deardorff founded Deardorff Highland Cattle in the fall of 2012. They had recently returned to Iowa to make their home in Clint's home town of Yale, Iowa after spending several years living in Montana. They started small with only 4 animals but it didn't take long for them to realize the potential of their budding enterprise.
Growth
From the humble beginnings of a fold of just 4 head, the number of cattle quickly multiplied over the years as demand for breeding stock and highland beef began to grow. We now maintain a fold of around 60 head. This can range up to 90 head+ during calving as we calve out around 30 cows each year.
The Future
We absolutely love raising Scottish Highlands and we have passed that passion for the breed on to our 3 sons; Corbin, Connor, and Carter. We hope that they will choose to remain involved in the operation and someday take it over when the time is right.
